Why Your Construction Needs Quality Post Tension Cables

By Anthony Harris

Construction methods are constantly upgraded to ensure that longevity and strength of buildings. Solutions for concrete installations are often made to further strengthen slabs and other structures. This is also to provide them with more stress bearing potential.

All quality items related to creating housing, working spaces, transport systems, plants and vital facilities for industry, defense or civil engineering, prestressing and tensioning cement solutions are studied. Post tension cables are the most widely used materials for creating high stress load ranges for structures that are meant to last and provide great strength. It takes experts to handle these cables and assure quality as well as post construction concerns.

These things need to be done right. The spaces are measured precisely and built according to plans and specifications. But for strengthening purposes engineers and workers have good margins to where they can safely work. This is to ascertain the process of post tensioning and prestressing cement.

The unique applications for engineering and design for cables laid down before concrete is poured are high rise buildings, slabs for housing, foundations, bridges and dams. They are also applied for tanks and silos, industrial paving and nuclear containment facilities. The known strength and tensile quality of steel cables is a good way to reinforce concrete on many levels.

Post tensioning is applied to make strong slabs with reduced thicknesses and longer ranges between support posts or columns. It is very useful to improve overall performance and also in materials and time saved. The technique borrows from prestressing, but the complete system involves prestressing as preparatory phase as well as an eventuality after liquid cement starts to harden and the formation begins its strengthening phase.

The steel cables are put inside strong plastic sleeves. Afterwards they are laid out on a grid within a hardened framework that holds them together. Then some prestressing is done on them. The cement that is poured on this grid has to take time to gain strength, after which the cables are again pulled and this time anchored to surrounding installations.

The laying down of tensioned cable systems should be well planned. This is to ensure that repair work or remodeling can be done later, when other elements are added to a structure. It is also done to lessen the danger involved when digging up cables for work below ground levels which is usually a problem for companies that work with laying the groundwork or using underground systems.

In this way, the integrity and strength of structures are ensured. The technologies available has constantly improved through the years. For cables themselves, this means better steelmaking and the use of gadgets like GPR or ground penetrating radar for checking out systems after installation.

If and when newer methods are introduced in the industry, there are always items for improved stressing and cable use. These are now the most relied upon ways to take any work above projected standards. The field is being upgraded all the time by adding on new knowledge from after every project is completed.
