The Benefits Of Shared Website Hosting

By Lela Perkins

If you are a business owner, you might be aware of the benefits that having an internet presence can bring you. A lot of people use the internet to do a variety of activities such as buying things, reading information, hiring services, etc. If you haven't already, you need to consider the migration of your business processes, in part or in whole, to a shared website hosting plan.

Webpages have become integrated in daily business routines. If a company wants to create a solid customer base, gain social capital, and increase their income, it can be done through utilizing webpages. There things to consider before choosing a host plan. There are numerous host plans available, but the most common plans are the dedicated or the shared servers.

A web host company is the foundation and home which business webpages are built. It is a virtual platform that presents information and options to its users. In order for a business to put out webpages, a web host service is required because they utilize servers that are interconnected globally to the World Wide Web.

A server is a machine, much like a computer, that hosts webpages while taking in user requests and providing information that is stored on its hard drives. It basically shows the pages that the user sees on internet, responds to the user's requests, and hosts functional code that allows users to interact with webpages. Typically, a company will provide dedicated service that focuses all of the server's data and functional capacity for one business, or it will provide a server that many businesses will use at the same time.

If a business is the size of an enterprise or government agency, they would benefit from dedicated server. It enables a company website to host a large amount of traffic in a given moment. This feature is only good for a business if it expects to grow tremendously in a short amount of time. Contrary to sharing, a dedicated server can use any operating system and is free from any limitations imposed by the density of traffic of another business.

If you run a small business, a start up, or a small organization, you would be better suited with a shared plan. This is especially true if you expect the first year or so to be a steady amount of traffic that does not put maximum loads on your server's capacity. It doesn't make sense to use a dedicated server if you do not plan on using most of its resources. A shared server will partition its disks for multiple website owners and their pages, but it can only contain one operating system to avoid conflict and crashes.

In a server that is being used by different businesses, all of the server's resources are divided proportionally for each business owner. It basically acts on efficient use of its resources. This type of setup is ideal when business owners only want to pay for the resources they are expected to use without the added cost and excess of resources.

A shared website hosting plan can always be converted into a dedicated server, as long as you contact your service provider about the changes. If your business does not need a lot of options, space, or memory, dedicated plans would be a waste of your time and money. You might think that a sharing plan is not much in regards of data. If you are inexperienced in information technology, it is actually more than you think.
