Better House Ventilation With Louver Vents

By Cynthia Peterson

Louvers are similar to jalousies which consists of many horizontal slats that are placed diagonally in order for light and air to pass. These are also used for keeping the home out of rain, noise, and direct light from the sun. Louvers have fixed angles of slats while jalousies are adjustable.

Making a lot of modern designs is evolving and are being updated, and from making old louvers out of barrels. New and modern louver vents design includes window blinds which are very common to all. Slats in window blinds has a pulley that when it is pulled, it closes and also opens the blinds.

One very popular louver which is made and used in history is the gable vent. Gable and screened vents and are mostly used in house attics and comes with different shapes, sizes, and materials. They offer a certain amount ventilation at the top most part of the attic but it does not produce equal ventilation in some areas.

Soffit and ridge venting are the two other ways of venting the attics. A type which allows the air passage from the under part of the roof is called the soffit venting. Moisture is reduced inside the attic when this type of venting is being used. And the type which is placed at the top most part of the sloped roof for humid air to escape is called the ridge venting.

Wood, aluminum, metal, and glass are most common modern materials for vents. These modernized materials can opened by the use of a pulley which is a string with a ring at then end, or modern operators for opening and closing. These materials are also used by architectural buildings to add effects to the structure and most of these can be seen in the building facades.

Most infrastructures are also making use louvers as an opening for flood. Letting the flood enter helps in equalizing the pressure on the walls. And this results to less severe damage of the structure due to flooding.

In big industries such as power plants and factories, louvers are very common. This is because it helps temperature control and is utilized for natural ventilation. Working inside a power plant is very challenging for both the workers and the equipment during summer. The higher the temperature outside, the more it gets hotter inside. So many industries today are making use of natural ventilation.

Transportation used for animal towing are common examples. People before had a problem in giving the animals fresh air when inside a vehicle. For competitive races, horses are being towed and transported to different places. And most vehicles does not have a proper passage of air and thus, resulting to the suffocation of animals due to the gases produced by vehicles.

Since the crisis of global warming is increasing nowadays, the climate in most houses, buildings, and other infrastructures also changes. Installation of vents are very much important for constant temperature control and insulation. This would be best because of temperature and weather swings and more importantly, for good and proper ventilation.
