Simple Guidelines When Doing A Fiber Optic Cable Installation

By Jerry Gray

An optical fiber type of cable is composed of maybe one or many optical fibers. The elements inside are usually coated with layers of plastic and are being contained in a protective tube suitable for any types of location. There many types of these cables. One is the long distance communication which is one of the most popular among the types. It has a high speed connection of data used in many parts of a building.

Optical fibers can be very reliable since it has a high quality. It is very strong, but the strength may reduced by microscopic surfaces that are inherited in the manufacturing processes. The strength and change with time must be considered as relative to the fiber when handling, cabling, and installing it to any environmental condition. The purpose of this article is to give you basic guidelines on fiber optic cable installation Vancouver.

These fibers are consists of a core and cladding layer. In typical fibers, the cladding is usually coated with acrylate polymer or polyimide. This will protect the fiber from any damage but it will not have any contribution to the optical wave guide properties.

If it is to be installed indoors, the fiber is enclosed with a bundle of fibrous polymer inside a lightweight cover made with plastic to form a cable. Each end is placed with an optical fiber connector so it can be easily connected or disconnected from the equipment. In tough environments, a robust cable maybe required.

In Vancouver, BC, cables like these are mostly installed under the floors, on the ceilings, or in walls which have permanent outlet locations. The channel or conduit is being made out from polyvinyl chloride plastics or metallic tubing. For you to install it with ease, always provide pull cords or fish tapes so you can hold the channels in place. When installing in dropped ceilings, it would be very easy since these kind of ceilings often have panels that can be removed easily.

Cables which are placed in trays are convenient to use, and these are safe as well. It is also efficient when installed in any location. A location may be below the floors, ceilings, or riser shafts. Because trays are used for any cable type, other routes can also be installed that will run in the same tray but to different locations.

When cabling in vertical risers or vertical shafts, there is a calculated maximum value of vertical rise assigned to them. The value is the distance which it is pulled. When pulling the cable, using a split wire mesh grip is important. This is to avoid crushing the core when pulling.

The jacket in the outer part must be removed in order to expose the cable. After removing, the ripcords and the clear tape may be cut back. The central strength must be trimmed also. But some can be cut back to the jacket as well so that it will not interfere with the termination.

A lot of tools are now available for stripping the coatings and the buffers. The removed buffer amount will be dependent on the termination and application procedures. Checklists for installation should also be considered when doing the process.
