Fishermen carry out this activity either in heated enclosures or the open. Ice fishing houses were designed to help fishermen in extracting valuable fish species. These are portable sheds that are usually mounted on a frozen water body to provide shelter when the act of catching fish takes place.

These structures can be categorized into two classes based on their price. There are housing structures that are inexpensive to construct and maintain while others are very costly. The cheap ones are however not durable. Those that are costly to construct are relatively durable and have several utilities like furniture. Both housing structures are portable and can be utilized to provide accommodation to fishermen.

These housing structures form an integral part of the lives of those who inhabit snow infested regions. To be precise, most fishermen decorate these structures with appealing materials. Also, these shanties are diverse in design. They are meant to make fish catching more comfortable and efficient because snow regions are characterized by extremely low temperatures.

Housing structures are normally dragged to a frozen water body using snowmobiles or truck. This process is carried out by a knowledgeable driver to ensure that the structures reach their expected destination successfully. This is because snow and thaws are also barriers to transport whenever a truck is towing a fish house. Snowmobiles are motor powered devices that allow transportation of loads in frosty regions.

There are areas in the world where ice fishing is considered as a leisure activity. In such areas, some resorts comprise of fish shanties to give tourists a glimpse of how fish is captured in frozen lakes. Also, there are snow track cars that mimic snowmobiles. These cars facilitate movement around the frozen mass of water. This leisure activity has provided many people with employment opportunities.

The process of extracting fish over a frozen mass of water for domestic and economic use has transformed over the centuries. To be precise, people drilled holes on frozen lakes before catching fish. This was carried out in the old days. Present day methods of capturing fish within snow infested grounds are efficient. For example, fishermen utilize special anglers to get the precise location of a fish ground.

Fish can be captured any time in frosty regions courtesy of specialized shanties that provide accommodation to fishermen. These shanties usually comprise of utilizes such as toilets and cooking appliances to ensure that fishermen enjoy their stay when catching fish. They also have the capacity to accommodate at least six people. Permanent ones also have heating appliances to provide warmth because of the low temperatures in frosty areas.

There are hazards associated with shanties mounted on iced water bodies. For example, heaters found within these shanties may cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Frost-bites also develop when shanties are exposed to low temperatures and wind. Most housing designs however have air conditioning systems that mitigate chances of air poisoning.
