Throughout the history of man, oceans have played an important role to people globally when it comes to transportation.Unlike in the past, most ships are now used to transport goods instead of people. Due to the increase in demand globally the shipping capacities has also increased over the years. In the year two thousand and two thousand and eight the international trade increased up to an average of five point four percent. However the economical activities that year did increase by only three percent. World trade in the 1950s contributed to forty per cent of the total world economy by promoting the shipping trade. The percentage is still increasing as development as well as innovation is advancing.

About twenty three percent of world trade is conducted between countries that have a similar border. The percentage was constant since the trade started and the percentage differed depending with the extent of development in those particular countries. Countries that do not share borders had to use water transport in order to ensure the international trade activities remain constant. Though, there are those who preferred their cargo to be delivered by use of airplanes.

Transport modes differ with the cost. There are modes that set high charges than other modes of transport, however, the decision is upon you. If you are well up in terms of finance, you can afford the high costs of transport. Though, it is important to consider the value of those cargo you intend to transfer. It is an advice that you consider a more reliable conveyance.

The main objective leading to massive increase in the shipping transportation is the growth of world trade.However, the technological and institutional factors had an important role. Due to the development in communication and information technology the cost of accessibility and mobility reduced. This allowed the innovation of new network and their connections which later led to an increase in production of goods, hence facilitating the offshoring and outsourcing of this goods.

Large ships that were capable of carrying bulky cargo had to be built to carter for the problem of high demand. Technological and organizational works had to improve the management of the ports. They included the application of containers that were considered as a great step in modification of this industries.

The shipping is not only important to convey goods, but it is also essential when it comes to the creation of jobs. Most jobless people around oceans and seas secured jobs out of this development. This improved the living standards of most individuals as they can now put food on the table. Consequently, the economy of those particular countries improved.

The shipping of goods has also promoted the development of industries in third world countries. This is because it ensures a steady supply in terms of goods exported. It also brings the connection of different countries hence promoting tourism that is usually a benefit to the economy and wealth of a particular country.
