How To Get A Job As A Mermaid

By George Dodson

There are many interesting creatures in the oceans. Some of them are real and some of them are stuff of lore. Among those that come from tales told over many a pint of ale are Davy Jones Locker, Neptune, and the mermaid. Of those that fill a tale over a pint of ale are Neptune, Davy Jone's locker and of course mermaids.

A mermaid is a half fish, half human and a beautiful sea creature. She lures her inspecting victims with her beauty and drags them below the surface of the water. Apparently she is a mixture of the earth and ocean. The mermaid represented the mystery of the sea to the Greeks. What did become of those unfortunate sailors?

Of course, this is more Greek mythology than anything else is, but there are people who perform as mermaids. Even though they have tails they are still women, beautiful ones too.

Want to get a job as a mermaid?

You will have to have a love of water. You're swimming with a tail instead of two feet or swim fins so the action is distinctly different. First off you work as a model to learn about how to present yourself. Most of your time won't be spent swimming on the ocean. The quality of your performance will depend how you present yourself in a mystic manner. A good understanding of camera angles and how a camera works is vital.

Learn about the ocean. Understand the seas by talking to the likes of divers who are always in the water. Find out how they see the oceans. Find one or two that are underwater photographers and get some shots to form a portfolio. You're going to need that if you want to impress some prospective employers who may be considering you for their next mermaid.

Perfect your mermaid skills by performing at kids parties. The kids will allow you to practice the final details of being a mermaid without too much criticism.

You can either make or create your own mermaid tail.

One person who was a model and became a mermaid is Hannah Frasier. She suggests that you create your own tail to match your body instead of copying other designs. For you it needs to feel natural. It is better to have a certain shape so as to glide powerfully through the water. Make it you, Hannah says, be creative.

If you follow these tips, you too could be in a fabulous picture seen swimming with a whale, or thrilling audiences at one of the famous water parks in the United States or elsewhere.
