Procedures On How To Make Homemade Essential Oils

By Lelia Hall

Various kinds of floras could be providing important liquids. During ancient times, individuals are using the liquids for therapeutic, medicinal, or culinary purposes. They are usually employing various methods in extracting liquids from various floras.

Distillation is commonly used. Since commercial oils are quite expensive for most people, the distillation method can be employed so that these can be obtained from their own houses. These following procedures could aid them on how to make homemade essential oils.

As a start, apparatuses are needed to be used by the individuals for their distillations. There are four components for the apparatuses. They are the furnace or heat source, retort or holding tank, condenser, and separator. Specific functions are served by these components. These apparatuses can be purchased by the persons from hardware stores but the items might be expensive. However, if little amounts of these liquids will only be produced, improvised apparatuses might want to be built, instead.

The raw ingredients where the liquids will be extracted from should be obtained. These may be flowers, herbs, plants, or other floras. These plants can be obtained from their gardens but should be handled properly. Plants can also be bought from markets but those which are still in whole forms should be purchased. Before these materials will be obtained, researches should be conducted first about the different types of plants and the amounts of liquids that could be provided by them.

The enthusiasts will have to dry their materials so that they can increase their yields. However, they should not place these materials under direct sunlight. Typically, the drying methods for different plants may vary. Ideally, the individuals should dry them under the shades of trees or inside dark rooms. The dried plants should not get wet again before they distill them.

While waiting for the drying method to finish, he must be filling the tank with enough clean water, ideally a distilled or filtered one. If he has a commercial still, he must be following the instructions of the manufacturer in using it. Afterwards, he should be completely submerging the material into the water. He does not need to be cutting the plant for him to be preserving more liquid.

After putting the plant inside, the person must be properly closing the lid of the tank and waiting for it to boil. The process could be taking about an hour or six hours, depending on the plant type he will be using and amount of water in his tank. Most plants are releasing essential liquids after boiling.

Once the processes have been completed, the liquids should be filtered. Cheesecloth or other fabric types should be used. They need to ensure, though, the dryness and cleanliness of these fabrics. This way, the oils will not be contaminated by residues and dirt.

The liquids should be stored by the persons in glass containers via funnels. Stainless steel containers can also be used. They must ensure the cleanliness of these containers before such will be done. These items should be stored in cool, dark areas so that they could last for about two years.
