Discovering Disney World Hotels And History Of Parks

By Frances Kelly

Officially, the Disney World Resort and Theme park complex is known as Walt Disney Resort. The complex in Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake Florida is situated near Orlando, Florida and host several disney world hotels. While originally built and owned by Walt's company, the complex now has a new owner.

The resort hosts 27 themed hotels, nine corporate hotels, a camping resort and multiple golf courses. In addition, there are 2 water parks, 4 theme parks and 27 themed hotels. There are also a number of indoor and outdoor dining options, a shopping center and other attractions such as art galleries and museums.

In the original plans, the resort was to be a supplement to that of Disneyland in California. In the early phase, the area was planned to be a community and village where people could live and play. As such, it was the intention to build a place which would provide a separate and unique identity to that of the California parks.

One of the biggest highlights is the EPCOT attraction. For, individuals can travel around the world, step into the future and taste foods from around the world. While Disney had an idea for EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype of Tomorrow, the attraction now serves millions of visitors each year. While an early development, EPCOT now shares the limelight with three other theme parks on the resort.

Before Walt could begin work on the Florida Project, it took a great deal of lobbying before the Reed Creek Improvement district became a reality. After which, Disney gained the rights to become an incorporated city. Sadly, Walt passed away before the work began and never lived to see the completion of the project. Later, the company began creating a resort akin to that of the location in California.

The company later abandoned the earlier concepts for a planned village and community. After which, Magic Kingdom was the first theme park to open in 1971. Later, Epcot was built in 1982, Hollywood Studios in 1989 and Animal Kingdom, the most recent in 1998. The newest attraction is that of the Star Wars Experience, complete with costumes, characters, games and rides related to the film enterprise.

Walt Disney World is often considered one of the most visited attractions in America. For, with attendance often in the millions on an annual basis, the destination serves several corporations schools and families throughout the year. As such, the resort has become a staple for businesses, schools and vacationers.

A number of long distance travelers prefer to stay at the on-site hotels. For, most offer free transportation between hotel and airport and park entrances. In addition, there are all-inclusive packages which also include park admission and other benefits such as dining passes and all you can drink glasses.

Whether traveling with a group, or on a solo mission, there are a number of hotels outside the resort which often come with lower prices tags. While this is the case, it is often recommended that individuals read a number of reviews and testimonials related to off-site lodging. For, while some may offer the same amenities and benefits as those on-site, those are few and far between.
