Exploring A Concert Hall Austin Texas

By Raymond Bennett

When it comes to seeing a show in the capitol of Texas, there are a number of choices. Whether ballet, a band, magician, musician, play, symphony or other performance, Bass Hall, a concert Hall Austin Texas has it all.

While Bass Hall located on the University of Campus Texas ranks as the most historic venue of its kind, there are also other venues which promote live music and other events. For example, One World Theater located between Austin and Hill Country hosts a number of world class concerts each year.

Whether musician or poet, a number of venues have been torn down and replaced by million dollar condos in the inner city. As a result, venues which feature these individuals and bands have been pushed out to the suburbs. In some cases, clubs have moved to other areas of town while others have been moved outside the city limits.

Another problem with the revitalization of the city which many denounced in the early days is the rise in cost of concert, festival and show tickets. In fact, some festivals that once required a can good or $5 donation, now charges $30/ticket with none going to charity. Whereas, most concert tickets start at upwards of $85-100 and show tickets around $30 and up.

Whether due to the new landscape of the city or scalping, most long time Austin residents can not afford the high cost of the venues. As such, it is often those of a much higher income bracket whom are now seen at these events. Whereas, a number of those whose homes were taken due to building code violations are now homeless.

In some cases, fans have been able to find ways to afford these higher priced tickets. Although, as prices rise each year when it comes to concerts, festivals and shows, it gets harder to afford various events with each passing year. While there has been some effort to head off scalpers, it can often be a difficult task.

Some of the more historic clubs which host shows still have $15 to $25 cover charges. These venues include the Saxon, Continental and other local bars. In many cases, these venues offer a free or low cost happy hour with drink specials. As such, many bands prefer to play these historic venues for long-time fans rather than some larger ones.

Taking a tour of a concert or music hall can be a fun experience, attending a show even more. When it comes to festivals, Austin host the annual South By Southwest Festival and Austin City Limits Live, although passes to both are extremely expensive. In fact, starting prices for film only passes run over a grand for South By Southwest while a three day pass to the ACL fest often costs approximately $275 to $300.
