Simple Tips And Tricks For Paraffin Removal

By Jerry Olson

Among all other types of waxes, paraffin is used in your life most frequently. Candles can leave their marks on your wardrobe, kitchen elements, carpets or furniture, or even on your glasses. Several non-polar solvents might help you removing such stains, and xylene and toluene are the most effective ones for this particular purpose. There are also some other tips and trick that can help you when it comes to paraffin removal.

Although some other non-polar solvents also can be useful, for example petrol and gasoline, it is not advisable to use them, because of their smell, as well as for the possibility of making damages to your textiles or furniture. Don't try to use acetone and similar products, because these are not non-polar solvents and won't make any good.

Depending on the area you want to clean, there are several simple methods that can be useful in your household. If your clothes has stains, the first thing you should do is to put it in your freezer for a while. Once frozen, the wax will crack, allowing you to remove the majority of it scrubbing with one plastic knife, for example.

Once the majority is removed, use paper towels and warm iron for melting and removing the rest of it. It might be necessary to repeat this several times, depending on the material. Once this is done, you may simply wash your clothes in warm water and detergent. Really sensitive fabrics might require dry cleaning instead.

When you want to clean your carpet or some other large area, you obviously cannot place it in your freezer. Use ice packs instead. Scrap and remove as much wax as you can. Warm iron or a hair dryer will help you melt the remaining particles. If it was colored wax, it might leave a stain. Remove it as you would remove any other stain from your carpet.

Paraffin stains on wood, marble or other surfaces are cleaned using the same procedure. Scrub the majority of wax, using plastic spatula or something, freeze the stain and remove as much as you can. Now it's time for something different. Apply warm vegetable oil on the stain and use the toothbrush to dissolve the wax. Brush as much as you can away, and wash the surface with warm water and soap.

Smaller areas such as, for example, your camera lenses, can be cleaned using the same procedure. Scrap, freeze, scrap, use a hairdryer to melt the remains, remove what you can by wiping. Dissolve in oil or simply wash using warm water and soap right away. Ear sticks might be quite useful here.

In the end, using hair wax on your skin can also leave residues. Although they can be removed using warm water and soap, it is so much easier to remove them with warm olive oil first. Use some soft cloth and apply a generous quantity of olive oil on your skin. Let it there for a few seconds, and gently remove all wax residues.
