Methods To Make An Up-To-Date Curriculum Vitae If You're An Older Worker

By George Dodson

The best performance always comes out from constant practice and training. When talking about the quality of work, we can always rely on experience. Experience is very much valued in the employment industry that whether you're too old or too young for the job you'll be guaranteed a position. However, despite the good amount of work experience there are still those older workers that are having a hard time getting a job. What causes this kind of problem? The resume. Indeed one of the things you really need to consider prior to being hired for any kind of job is your resume and it can be quite difficult to have a good one if you are an older worker. Fortunately, there are a few ways on how to come with a good resume despite your age as a worker and these tips are as follows:

Format is the first thing that employers or hiring managers notice in a resume

This is simply one of those obvious things that employers see first in a resume. What we usually see in a resume is the objective or introduction, followed by the educational background containing primary education and secondary education then followed by the work experience and skills last. This is a usual format for people who just got out of college and is looking for a job for the first time. For those looking for their first job, this is a good format however may not be very effective for those older workers. For older workers, it would be better have the skills enumerated on the first page and then on the second page would contain the long list of work experience, training sessions attended or seminars. If you choose to have an educational background line or page on the first page or line of your resume, you need to make sure that is short and precise.

Don't specify dates

The dates in your resume can often be the topic of controversy. To expand this further, imagine if you have finished school 20 years ago and have that specified in your educational background and have your employer see it, he or she would wonder if you still have the knowledge and skills to work with today's modern requirements. As much as possible, employers want people with fresh skills and knowledge that matches today's business needs for the reason that these are more productive and efficient. Instead of having the dates on your resume for the educational background and work experiences, you can simply have the years studied or worked.

Be specific about learning new things

Despite your experience and your high level of skills you should still have the willingness to learn new things and further improve the great level of skills that you have now. If there is one thing that employers want to hear from their employees its the willingness to learn new things and to further grow. As the company grow, employers want their staff or employers to grow with them as well further enhancing their skills and knowledge. You can show your willingness to further improve your skills and learn by emphasizing on your recent training and seminars attended.

Work ethics

Compared to the younger generation of workers that we have today, older workers obviously have better work ethic. You need to point out that you are loyal, responsible as well as very much interested in growing with the company.

Be confident

One more thing to consider when writing your resume is that you should have confidence. Make sure that you pick your words or content in your resume and they should express your confidence. You can specify your confidence when on the work experience part of your resume. Mention that your contributions at work and your best performances, etc.
