Long Island Advertising Agencies: What Caused Myspace's Fall?

By Katie Arden

There are certain cases in which a large degree of growth is followed up by a decline. In this regard, I would like to cover MySpace, which many people will view as one of the oldest social media platforms that Long Island advertising agencies will be able to recognize. However, to say that MySpace is useful for advertising endeavors would be something of a stretch. For those who are curious about why this platform has seen such a decline, here are a few points to mention.

It was in 2003 that MySpace was launched and to say that it drew interest would have been an understatement. I was only a middle school student when MySpace started to become popular and I could see why it did. Everyone's page could be customized based on their interests, and there seemed to be a focus on music that people got into as well. However, that was then; these days, it's rarely discussed in the same breath as bigger websites such as Twitter and Facebook.

There are many reasons why MySpace has seen a decline, some of them potentially more obvious than others. Any Long Island advertising agency can tell you that other websites were released a few years after MySpace, with Facebook being perhaps the most prominent name. As that particular game gained ground, MySpace started to lose some of its own. From then on, it was a steady decline which could have been observed by firms such as fishbat.

You should also keep in mind that, for the most part, MySpace is more of a music platform these days than anything else. This has been the case for quite some time, which hasn't bode well for the website in question. Consider that Facebook and Twitter, while limited at the onset as well, slowly brought other features into the mix. As of now, MySpace has use, but largely for those who are music enthusiasts or are newer artists looking to make their mark in the industry.

Of course, one can look at MySpace and see that it does have a certain use to a certain subsection of individuals. However, Long Island advertising agencies can tell you that it's not the most optimal platform for marketing, especially when it seems like the general audience has flocked to other websites. It's those platforms which will be more recommended for long-term brand awareness. MySpace is a website that is best left to the wayside.
