Characteristics Of Droughtmaster Cattle Farming

By Patricia Taylor

As the name suggests, these are animals that can survive even in the drought. This breed of cattle was developed by several cattle men in queens land. The animals are mainly kept for the purposes of meat production. The livestock are mainly red in color with a short coat. The red color goes a long way in preventing eye cancer and sunburnt udders. Below are more characteristics of Droughtmaster cattle.

For most cow breeds, calving is not very easy. This, however, is not the case with Droughtmaster cows. They are known for their ease of calving. This is why even farmers are dry areas keep them as they do not pose any risks. The cow and calf will always be well as long as they are sufficiently fed. The farmer does not spend money for a veterinarian when the cow is due.

These cattle require very low nutritional providence. This is what makes it possible for them to survive in dry areas. Despite them not using up too many nutrients, their meat is still state of the art. Even in the dry regions, they store all the food and water in the hump until they are able to find food again. This means that no matter where they are raised, their meet is good too.

High-quality beef is also a result of these livestock being resistant to parasites. Most parasites cause health issues to the animal they attack. Luckily, Droughtmaster are resistant to any kind of parasites. As a result, their meat is always healthy to eat. This is a great attribute as it would be completely difficult to locate a veterinarian or even out source one to the desert.

They can tolerate high amounts of heat. Once again, this trait allows people in dry areas to keep these livestock without a lot of maintenance. This is because of their short coat. It is able to resist the heat of the sun accumulating and at the same time it is able to keep the livestock warm at night. A farmer in the dry areas could not profit from cattle breed that cannot withstand heat.

They easily adapt to every environmental condition. This simply means that these livestock can live in both hot and cold places. This makes it the livestock that much more marketable. The ones in the desert are still healthy, now imagine the ones in the green lands. Although they do not eat too much, they grow really big and provide a lot of meat. This translates to large profits.

They are very fertile. This means that you are unlikely to use a lot of money for their insemination. The process may actually work on the first try. Apart from that, it is an assurance that with time you will have a large heard which means more business. You can supply the livestock even across the country and make a lot more profit.

No one likes to be disturbed. We all like obedience and prefer to have things done the easy way. These livestock are quiet and submissive. Therefore, they do not bring problems when being grazed or even being sold.
