What To Know About Custom Articulated Mannequins

By Jeffrey Stewart

Human models or figures being made out of wax was the common practice up until the 1920s because this was the material that at the time could yield the most realistic results. Later, plaster composites were used, which held form much better and were much more durable. Custom articulated mannequins are now made out of various types of materials based on the type of model it is, and can include anything from plastic, fiberglass, metal, to polyurethane.

Human figures have a variety of uses, and the types of models used are very different to suit the needs of each use. One common use of a mannequin is in clothing stores, where these figures are placed in lifelike poses and used to model the clothing that is for sale there. There are other more professional uses of these figures that require a higher level of idea, such as in photography and for business purposes.

Whether shopping for a single mannequin or a large order, the first thing to do is consider is what type of environment this figure will be in and what purpose it will be serving. Sometimes, models that are focusing on a specific part of the body will only have the torso, or won't have a head. For clothing stores directed at certain demographics, there are children, plus-size, and pregnant models.

When looking for a company to make an order with, it is important to look into their business record. This includes not only how long the company has been in business but how they have connected with and created a network with other businesses such as manufacturers and suppliers. Having that strong network allows the company to deliver on their orders in a time- and cost-efficient way.

Since it is impossible to know exactly what a customer will want until working with them, companies offering this product do well when they have worked with a range of customers before. While no two customers are alike, chances are a highly experienced company will have worked with a similar client. That past experience helps to find out and deliver exactly what a customer wants.

For very specialized cases, a mannequin can be modeled after a person. This involves a high level of involvement and comes at a bit higher cost, but for those who need a mannequin that is exact, there are companies that offer this service. The process involves professional photography done in a studio.

Although customized models can be amazing, they are generally more expensive and take more time to make. That is why for those who have more general needs, companies will refer them to their inventory. Most companies who make customized models also have a vast inventory of designs that customers can choose from.

While they may come at a bit higher cost and require professional craftsmanship, for those who have very specialized needs, they will not be disappointed by what they get when they go with a quality company. Human figures have many different uses, and some uses have very specific requirements. In those cases, it is worth the added cost.
