Employment Companies Are Useful In The Current Employment Environment

By Chris Vincent

Do not be put off by whatever you hear regarding the unemployment rate in America. There are still more than enough job opportunities out there for people who want to work. The hitch is that looking for a job today differs greatly from the process twenty years ago. Simply sending out resumes and cover letters is no longer an effective approach. For the employer to see the person behind the resume, you need employment companies to act as your agent in the job market.

Staffing agencies, also known as employment agencies, may suit you best if you are looking for an entry level or mid level position. Large companies constantly have to fill vacant positions and often prefer to hire through employment agencies. There is a very good reason for this preference. These agencies do a lot of work that would otherwise need to be done by the human resources department.

Upon registration with an employment agency, the applicant will be required to produce two forms of identification accepted by the Department of Immigration. Applicants also authorize a background check. It is not uncommon to complete and sign as many as twelve documents for the agency before registration. All this paperwork would over burden a busy human resources department. When an employer interviews an applicant referred from an employment agency, the employer can rest assured that the applicant has been thoroughly screened.

If you are looking for employment at the executive or managerial levels, a headhunter or recruitment agency will be a better match for your skills and experience. Employers that work with a recruitment agency are very serious about locating only quality applicants. Upon hiring, the employer agrees to pay the agency up to thirty percent of the annual salary that the new employee will be paid. This could easily cost the employer thirty to fifty thousand dollars.

The process of signing with a recruitment agency is not unlike applying for a job. You will be interviewed and scrutinized as if they were going to hire you. The agency will not take you on unless they believe you will represent them well. Recruitment agencies are serious about finding jobs for their clients, so be prepared for upcoming interviews.

There are headhunters who choose to devote their agency to a niche type of professional employee. These agencies look for clients who are well educated and experienced. Doctors, attorneys and certified public accountants are some of the professionals that fit into this niche type of agency.

Just about everyone understands the concept of movie stars being represented by agents. A movie star with a respected agent is most likely to find a job. Conversely, the agent will only take a client if he or she is confident that the client can get hired. Recruitment agencies work on the same principle. You will need to make a good impression on the recruitment agency. The agency must believe that you will represent them well so the employer will use their services again.

There are also global staffing agencies that provide all manner of employment opportunities and should not be overlooked in your search for that ideal job. These agencies are held in high regard by most of the Fortune 100 companies. Since their services are offered on a global basis, these agencies are an excellent resource if you want to move to another state or even another country.

Global staffing agencies are big companies with world wide connections. They pride themselves on making things happen. One global agency reports that they find one of their clients a job every thirty three seconds, and they make half a million job connections every year. Sometimes global agencies fill a lot of temporary positions. People can be so litigious these days that employers want to get to know you before hiring on a permanent basis. When a temporary employee performs well they usually are successful at transitioning to a permanent position.

Temporary positions can represent excellent opportunities. They give employees a chance to shine. They give employers a chance to see how the employee can fit into the company. If either one of the parties is not fully satisfied with the temporary position, the employee can move on without any fear of negative consequences for future employment.

Do not fear. Employment opportunities are out there in abundance. Your first priority will be to find the best representation possible for you and your skill levels. This could be the start of something wonderful.
