The Flag Company Inc And Papua New Guinea Flag

By Voter Samson

New Guinea has been inhabited by various peoples from throughout Asia for some 10,000 years. Its recorded history began with the visits of Portuguese explorers in the early 16th century, followed by Dutch traders. The Dutch East India Company took control of the western half of the island, which became a colonial possession attached to the Dutch East Indies in 1828.

In 1962 a local flag also incorporated a bird-of-paradise. That original design, used by a sports team, was green and featured a naturalistic bird rendition near the hoist.

Adopted on the first of July 1971, the flag of Papua New Guinea was designed by a 15 years old school girl that won the flag design competition. Even if the designer was so young, the actual flag has strong significance and connection to the state’s history.

The flag of Papua New Guinea consists of two diagonal triangular sections - the left section is black and the right section is red. Five, five-pointed, white stars representing the Southern Cross are in the black portion of the flag; while a yellow bird of paradise is in the red section.

In addition to this, facts and history of Papua New Guinea flag show that the raggiana bird design was not randomly engraved as national ensign: it is a national symbol that makes the country’s citizens proud for what they do and who they are.

There is a barrage of cheap and inferior Papua New Guinea flags being imported and sold, that do not comply with the flag statute. This is bad for a number of reasons. Imported flags are cheaply made and more importantly, the designs, materials, colors, and methods of printing do not compare well with the better quality, longer-lasting, and correctly designed flags. The Flag Company Inc specialized in flag designs offered a special edition of decals and flags to memorize the history of Papua New Guinean flag for the future.
